When I first started Makers of Care, I didn’t have a grand strategic plan. I didn’t have guaranteed funding or a marketing team.
I had faith and a burden on my heart that I could no longer ignore.
As a widow, I knew what it meant to step forward with uncertainty of what lies ahead. Yet…I just knew that doing nothing would be disobedient to the call the Lord was giving me. So I got in the car and started driving (metaphorically). No map. No roadmap. Just obedience to share God’s comfort with caregivers and anyone walking through pain.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
— 2 Corinthians 1:3–7
I told the Lord, “You drive. I’ll ride shotgun.”
And what a ride it’s been.
Five Years of Faithful Listening
For five years, Makers of Care has been in what I now call our grace period. We weren’t rushing to build fancy programs or post polished photos for social media. We were simply showing up—sitting with caregivers, hearing their stories, crying with them, praying with them, advocating for their voice and spurring them to love the Lord with all they have. We also asked the most important question:
“How can we truly help you?”
That’s where ministry begins, not in a boardroom, but in the quiet corners of people’s lives where pain hides.

What We’ve Learned About Ministry and Caregiving
The American mindset loves instant gratification. When we give, we want to see results right away. And nonprofits feel that pressure more than anyone.
But God doesn’t rush transformation. He builds things that last, and lasting things take time.
During these years, we learned something beautiful: the people will always define the program.
Through countless coaching calls and our Christ-centered caregiver support groups and curriculum, we’ve met Christian caregivers who feel invisible. Overlooked by a medical system that moves too fast. Ignored by a culture that doesn’t know how to handle long-term suffering.
We’ve met believers who are exhausted, worn thin by the daily grind of love and loss, and unsure if God still sees them.
But He does.
El Roi — The God Who Sees
The story of Hagar reminds us of that truth. She was the first person in Scripture to give God a name: El Roi, “the God who sees me.”
Alone. Rejected. Wandering in the desert.
And yet, she was seen by the God who cared.
That’s the heart of Makers of Care: We see, we hear, and we care.
We serve the seen and the unseen, the caregivers who love quietly, who carry the weight of others, and who sometimes feel forgotten in their own story.
We’re not chasing numbers or applause.
We’re chasing hearts.
Because our God cares for the one, and so do we.
